Description:

Martensitic transformation is one of the most common and, at the same time, unusual and even mysterious types of phase transformations in solids.

This transformation is linked with the hardening steels in quenching and also anomalous mechanical properties of alloys, including superelasticity, superplasticity and the shape memory effect. The phenomenology of the martensitic transformations and its nature have been studied in a huge number of experimental and theoretical studies, the number of which over time has not diminished.

The book is based on the analysis of a large number of worldwide literature sources and the results of many investigations of the martensitic transformations carried out by the authors of the book.

The book describes the current state of knowledge of the martensitic transformations. The following problems are investigated: the classification of martensitic transformations, the kinetic and structural special features of thermoelastic and non-thermoelastic transformations, crystallography of these  transformations,  the structure mobility of interphase boundaries during martensitic transformation, thermodynamics and kinetics of martensitic transformation, the effect of external factors on the development of the transformation; an anomaly of the mechanical properties, associated with the thermoelastic and non-thermoelastic martensitic transformations. The phenomena associated with martensitic transformations - superelasticity, the shape memory effect, magnetically controlled deformation in the alloys with ferromagnetic thermoelastic martensite, etc. are described.

In this Book:
